I’m fine, thank you.
Yes, there was a massive landslide in PNG, but it was far away from me or anyone I know. It was very remote. Please remember that number estimates will be unreliable for some time. And no, there are no contributions needed. The major need is for prayer for PNG.
For the past several weeks, another church has had a massive, country-wide campaign. This other “church” claims to be the world’s “mama church,” and salvation is through being good and joining that church (which worships on Saturday). This natural disaster reminds me of Luke 13:4-5. That other church, like most religions in the world that present that man can save himself, are religions that avoid true repentance. It would be foolish to think that those who have been buried in that landslide are worse sinners than any of the rest of us. The need is not to dress things up: the need is to see that we are all sitting under the just condemnation of God. This country is full of “missionaries” who refuse to teach true Biblical repentance. Those who are truly faithful to the Scripture are very few. But thankfully, there are Bibles all over the place. So again I say, please pray for PNG.
PNG has the highest rate of erosion in the world. Every year there are many uncounted landslides that take lives. This year has been unusual for so many. But it is true that this one you have seen on the news is unusually massive. There are so many “disasters” here: thousands die violent deaths from fighting, and many more thousands die every year from treatable and/or preventable diseases, but the health care system very much does not focus on that. Pray too for those of us who hold to the Word: that we would speak with love and compassion and faithfulness to the One Great and True God as He presents Himself in Scripture.
